you’re not enough

In a world that constantly bombards us with messages of self-sufficiency and the pursuit of perfection, it's easy to fall into the trap of believing that we have to be enough on our own. However, that mindset is setting us up for failure. We aren’t enough on our own– we can’t be.

Romans 3:23 says "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." That verse lays it out plain and simple: we all mess up. Every single one of us falls short of being perfect. And that's okay. It's not about beating ourselves up over our flaws, but recognizing that we're human and we're not meant to have it all together all the time. We’re not called to be perfect. God recognizes that we are incapable of being perfect.

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast."

Ephesians 2:8-9

Ephesians 2:8-9 is a reminder that we can't earn our way into God's good graces. God already loves us as we are. Salvation isn't something we achieve through a checklist of good deeds. It's a gift, freely given by a God who loves us more than we can comprehend. It's about faith, not performance.

In 2 Corinthians 5:21, we are reminded of the profound exchange that took place through Christ's death and resurrection:

"God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."

Jesus, who knew no sin, took upon himself the weight of our sins so that we could be made righteous in God's sight. He traded His perfection for our messiness. It's the ultimate act of love, showing us that we don't have to clean up our act before coming to God. He meets us right where we are, stains and all. It demonstrates the depth of God's mercy and the extent of His desire to reconcile us to Himself.

We have to understand that we can’t transform ourselves– only God can. No amount of striving or self-improvement can bridge the gap between our sinful nature and God's holiness. Spoiler alert!! We're not meant to go through life pretending we're flawless. If we attempt to go through life attempting to achieve perfection, we’re only setting ourselves up for failure.

But the good news is that we don't have to. Jesus is more than enough to fill every gap in our lives. To fill every imperfection. His love is more than sufficient to satisfy our deepest desires and give us the confidence to live boldly for Him.

No, you’re not enough. BUT through Christ, you’re chosen. You’re loved. You’re wanted. You’re forgiven. You’re adopted into His family. You’re redeemed from your past mistakes. And You’re restored to a new life filled with hope and purpose.
